Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

Residents at Coppelia House have started to collect shoeboxes and items for their donation to Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child.

When making up a box you decide boy or girl and which age bracket you would like to support. This year I’ve prepared a box for a boy and a girl both in the 2-4 age bracket. You also pay £3.00 towards shipping each box.

Samaritan’s Purse is an international relief and development organisation that works through local churches. Since 1990, 124 million children have received a Christmas shoe box in over 150 countries. We hope you’ll join us in helping children worldwide this Christmas.

If you’d like to donate some new items and shoeboxes, Coppelia are more than happy to receive donations. The local collection is November 4th, so please bring items in before then.

National Curry and Chocolate Week

National Curry and Chocolate Week

It’s a busy week for foodies with Chocolate Week and National Curry Week being celebrated.

Whether it’s a Thai curry, Japanese curry or Indian curry, fiery, hot or mild, many people enjoy a curry. The most popular takeaway is apparently Indian with two thirds of meals out being Indian.

Parkland House have recently celebrated and India themed day with a special themed lunch, including a glorious chicken curry with rice followed by coconut ice made by the residents.

Chocolate week has certainly captured everyone’s attention within the homes. You are sure to find some chocolate inspired treats on the menus this week.

If you are visiting the homes, feel free to bring some chocolates for residents to enjoy.

Happy Curry week and National Chocolate Week everyone.

Peninsula Care Homes love a good excuse to make and eat cake so we were delighted to learn that this week is National Cake Week.  Our resident bakers will be decorating cakes to serve with tea and our chefs will also be serving delicious cakes daily.

Plymbridge residents were delighted to win the Plymouth City Council special cake for the event Celebrating Excellence in Care, which took place on Saturday evening.

We envisage conversations on what makes the perfect cake, how do you make your sponge light and fluffy and of course appreciation for a good cup of tea and slice of cake.

Maybe the cake celebrations and Great British Bake off will inspire you to join the clandestine cake club or just join us making, decorating and eating delicious homemade cakes.

And finally, we would like to leave you with a little light and fluffy humour!

A man walks into a bakery with a salmon under his arm and says “do you have fish cakes?” The chap behind the counter replies, “No”. “That’s a pity, it’s his birthday”.

What’s yellow and swings from cake to cake? Tarzipan.

My Christmas cake has recently gone missing. I’ve reported it stollen

and finally…

I was in a cake shop the other day, they were all £5 apart from one that was £10. I asked why it was so expensive, the shop owner said “that’s maderia cake”.
